I was looking on Cinematical to see what sorts of things have sold recently as the possibility of an upcoming writer’s strike means that a lot of shit is bound to be selling. Instead I found an article about the upcoming The Bell Jar movie, based of course on the Sylvia Plath work. Anyone even remotely familiar with Plath knows what a cheery read she offers (insert sarcasm here).

It looks like Julia Stiles is the “big” star of the film and apparently does not think the work is depressing. at all. Nevermind the fact that Plath killed herself not long after writing it.

“I don’t think it’s depressing at all…”

Of course, now that she’s said that there will be scores of high school students telling their English Lit teachers the same thing.

Thank you Hollywood, for making Americans dumber by the minute.
