Want to be a screenwriter? Start as a letter writer!
I was reading on the Hollywood Reporter how Disney just bought a spec script for a sci-fi comedy called “Grounded.”
This was not the interesting part of the story. No, the interesting part is in reference to the writer, a one Paul Davidson.
Seems Paul here has a little “experience” under his belt. How, you may be wondering, did Paul go from a nobody with a generic ass name to selling a spec script to Disney?
Letter writing.
Davidson is known for writing “Consumer Joe,” a humor book that collected the author’s oddball letters to corporations as well as their replies. He also wrote a book called “The Lost Blogs” and the ABC pilot “The Box.”
Yes, that’s right. You heard it here first - if you want to be a screenwriter start out by being a letter writer.
Then take said letters and make a book out of them.
The end.
